World Masters Games call for Volunteers

New Zealand Football is calling the football community to get behind the World Masters Games in Auckland this April.

The World Masters Games (WMG) is about to launch in Auckland during the April school holidays with over 25,000 athletes competing across 28 sports.

With more athletes than the Olympics, the World Masters Games is the single biggest multi-sport event on earth and is being held in Auckland over 10 action-packed days from 21 April.

Daniel Farrow, the New Zealand Football Head of National Competitions, said the World Masters Games is a great opportunity to showcase New Zealand and our renowned hospitality to the world.

“The World Masters Games presents a perfect chance for Auckland to host a truly global event,” said Farrow.

“It will be exciting to be part of such a huge multi-sport event and share the experience with sports people, administrators and officials from many of New Zealand’s leading sports.

“Kiwis are famous for their hospitality and helping out when it is needed and we hope that the football community really gets behind the World Masters Games and make it an unforgettable experience for everyone who comes to New Zealand. As we know, a lot of sport in New Zealand would not be possible without volunteers and we would really appreciate any time people can offer for this event.”

Football is the largest sport of the World Masters Games with over 2,000 players across 130 teams.

The New Zealand Football event team is looking for volunteers to assist in the delivery of the tournament from 21 April – 30 April (school holidays).

Volunteering is a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience in the football world working alongside an experienced team and gain an insight into how football tournaments are delivered.

The biggest football venue is QBE Stadium in Albany, with up to six fields in operation at any one time.  To make this event a great player experience for all competitors, more volunteers are required to be available during the tournament.

The final recruitment window closes on Friday 24 March.

Every WMG volunteer receives a uniform and meals from Pita Pit, the event sponsor.

Areas where assistance is required are:

–          Assisting with set-up of fields

–          Information desk rosters

–          Checking and issuing of equipment

–          At field assistance

Please contact Kerry Greene, WMG Football Tournament Director on email to register your interest, providing your full name, date of birth and contact phone number.
