Late goals secure Lilywhites victory

Goals to Eastern Suburbs’ Sean Lovemore and Moses Dyer in the last 5-minutes ensured Malcolm McPherson’s side would finish the weekend at the top of the ladder.

Both teams and the respective supporters in attendance immaculately observed a minutes silence prior to kick off for those who passed away from Chapecoense de Brasil Football Club, in the plane crash earlier this week.

Five minutes into the game, a poor pass from Tasman found its way to Eastern Suburbs’ number 10, Sam Burfoot. Some neat football allowed him to get a cross into the Tasman box, the ball was received on the chest confidently by Armin Pasagic, and then his layoff to Sean Lovemore saw an unstoppable shot hit the back of the net to give the home side a 1-0 lead.

On the 20th minute mark, Suburbs conceded what would be their first goal at home as a misunderstanding between Luke Adams and goalkeeper Silvio Rodic allowed Tasman’s Tinashe Marowa win the ball and slot it past Rodic.

Adams looked to make amends soon after having found himself played through on goal, however Tasman ‘keeper Coey Turipa was quick to react and blocked Adams shot which was then cleared to safety by the defense.

Early in the second half, Tasman’s Ermal Hajdari saw a great effort go just wide of the far post before Adams gave Suburbs the lead, beating the offside trap and lobbing the ball into the back of the net.

Andrew Blake almost extended the home sides lead with a stunning left footed effort from outside the box, but Turipa made an equally as impressive save to keep his side within one goal.

The Tasman shot stopper was at his best once again denying Suburbs another goal, this time from the penalty spot, deflecting Osita Chikere’s effort onto the post.

Five minutes later, Suburbs were made to pay for this missed opportunity as Tasman found another equaliser this time through the head of Daniel Allan.

With two minutes to go in regulation time it would be Suburbs who took the lead for the third time.

Lovemore was played through and with time on his hands, passed the ball past Turipa and into the back of the net.

Suburbs weren’t done however, with Dyer rifling the ball into the back of the net in added time to ensure his side finished the weekend at the top of the ladder.
